How far in advance should I book a moving service?

When should I begin to prepare for my move?

Decluttering and donating or selling items that will not be moved to your new home 1-2 months in advance of move day will help you to be prepared as moving day approaches. Packing one room at a time and labeling boxes as you pack 2-4 weeks in advance will ease the stress you may feel leaving packing for the last minute.

What is the difference between a Broker (also called brokerages) and Mover? (also called a carrier or van line).

Brokers outsource their moving services. Simply put, brokers do not handle your move. They list the details of your move on a marketplace platform and multiple movers can bid on your job. There are down sides to using a broker. First, sometimes there is miscommunication or no communication between broker and movers. This can result in additional fees at the time of your move. Second, a broker does not assume responsibility for your household goods. If there are any damages the broker is not responsible. Additionally, sometimes a broker is not able to sell a job to a moving company and you will be without a mover on the day of your move.
